All throughout history there have been many people, communities, and events and circumstances that have acted as an agent of change. Furthermore, there are some aspects that have been greatly recognized while others have been overlooked. In class we talked about many different topics some commonly known and others that aren't so common. Each and every aspect of history impacts change somehow and can more than likely be recognized for their significance. Although not all people, communities, and events in history are pleasant, they should not be overlooked. Three topics that can be described and analyzed as an agent of historical change could be Lucy the Hobbit, the

Lucy is part of the earliest discovered humans called Homo floresiensis also known as hobbits. When Lucy’s remains were found and examined in Ethiopia in 1974, it was determined that she walked upright just like humans today; part of the first species to walk on two legs. This discovery allowed for investigation of the development of humans from the past as well as tool making and communication. Lucy’s remains also led to the scientific conclusions about the physical features of Lucy and the hobbits. In these early times the bodies of hobbits had characteristics specific to their way of life. They stood and walked upright, had larger rib cages, and short limbs. Since Lucy and the hobbits were some of the earliest humans to walk the earth, they had to do many things on their own. They would have to hunt for their own food, make and use tools for daily activities, and migrate to whichever locations they felt were appropriate to establish a permanent or temporary residence. Looking at these humans, it is easy to see the affect that Lucy had on the theory of evolution. Homo floresiensis is an early example of the human race and as new remains are discovered throughout history the changes over time are evident. Observing the physical features of the human body today allows us to see the changes that occurred over time. The limbs got longer, the rib cage got smaller, the head and facial features became more prominent, and the body as a whole is suitable for the current way of

After a mere 1.6 million years, Lucy’s DNA enables her descendants to produce the first species of the Homo genus known as Homo habilis, whom I hereby name Homer. As we look back to two million years ago, we find Homer living in Africa with a female companion possibly smaller than he is. Homer’s cranial capacity is 50% that of modern humans, and he uses his improved brainpower to become a toolmaker and a scavenger. He likely waits for large predators like lions to abandon their fallen prey, after which Homer approaches the remains and removes slabs of meat with a flake tool. The shape of Homer’s brain indicates that he may have had rudimentary speech, although the evidence is not conclusive.…

Ekaku Hakuin teaches that learning through Kōans (a paradoxical anecdote or riddle) and doubting can lead to enlightenment. That it is only by using Kōans and doubting things that we look at objectively, can we find what we are truly looking for. I relate this to everyday life. It is easy to get swept up in the flow of everyday life, taking things as they are, as face value, and not questioning things when they need to be questioned. For example, throughout most of primary and secondary school, we are taught that everything has an answer.…

The world of paleoanthropology is constantly changing as people make new discoveries at digging sites or in an office examining fossils. Things are constantly shifting in that world and changing modern day human’s understanding of the past and their evolution. When looking at fossils, they try to see how much variation is needed to name it a new species or not.
