I did my observation in a home daycare setting and was focused on the young male who was 5 who has been diagnosed with Autism. He is on the lower spectrum of Autism but still has the slight disability. While observing him, I observed the other children in the facility. There are 6 kids with one teacher. Her home is set up that everything takes place in the living room except nap time. That happens upstairs in the various rooms. (She lives in a multi-million-dollar home) The children range from 4 months-age 5 and there are 5 females and 1 male. It was 6 children per 1 certified teacher. I think this is very important because the parents and teachers need to be brought up on what the child did and how the child is doing and in order to do that you need home journals. Erik Erikson psycho-social theory plays a role at this home daycare. Trust VS Mistrust is something that is very important in child care, because they child needs to be able to trust the caregiver and also the parents need to trust the caregiver. Zone of Proximal development is relevant to this home daycare because the children are developing the way they are supposed to. Erik Erikson psycho-social theory like I said earlier is important especially the trust mistrust stage, autonomy vs shame and doubt, and industry vs. inferiority. This observation really taught me that I don’t really want to work in an infant and toddler classroom. I enjoy working with kids, but I don’t think I can stay for 9 hours in the classroom. I could do kindergarten or up, but I definitely know after this observation that the older crowd is where I want to be. I learned that you need a lot of patience and determination when working with young children. Each child is going to need different things at different times and it’s hard to know what the child needs at that exact time especially if you have multiple children who need multiple
