Confidential health information that you see or hear yourself must be kept to yourself and look only at that medical information you need to do your particular job. If employees come to the healthcare facility for care, their information needs to be as protected as anyone else’s medical records.

Security safeguards need to be in place at all times. Some ways to do this include the following:

* Access the healthcare information you need using only your own user ID and password. * Sign off a workstation whenever you leave it when it has medical information on it. * Do not write down any passwords or post passwords near the computer for logins. * Unnecessary personal health information on thumb drives, CDs or DVDs need to be destroyed. * Limit the access to personal health information to those who really need to see it. * Do what is necessary to prevent theft of equipment containing personal health records. * All passwords should expire in 180 days and all information is to be password-protected. * Virus detection software needs to be in place at all

http://www.hhs.gov/ is the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) website, and is a government website in which all the content provided on this is considered to be authentic. I considered this website a good starting point for anyone who is doing graduate level research on a topic related HIPAA. This website contains pretty much most of the information need to understand HIPAA.

http://www.cms.gov/ it is another federal government website that is managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service. CMS is responsible for administrative simplification standards of HIPAA.

These website are using a .gov domain which is only issued to government entities of United Sates of America, so I am confident that all the information on these websites is accurate and up-to-date. Since these are government websites they did not contain any advertisement. Sites only listed the legislations related to the U.S Health Department. Main purpose of these websites is to educate the general public about health related regulations. I learned a great deal about HIPAA from these two websites, and upon further reading, I found a great deal of useful information that would help in the understanding of HIPPA for someone working as a systems administrator of Software Company, which develops medically-related
