Disloyalty, treachery, backstabbing, traitor, lying, deception are all forms of betrayal. In the novel Cue For Treason, written by Geoffrey Trease, betrayal is a key factor since the characters often find themselves in situations where they think they can trust somebody but they cannot. This happens with the yellow gentlemen when he betrays Peters trust by stealing the script. Mr. Armthwaite betrays Peter and Kit by notifying conspirators that their actions are investigated. The last example is John Somers, he betrays all of England by attempting to assassinate the Queen.

An insignificant actor who is willing to put everything on the line to get the slightest bit of recognition from the public. The Queen’s life was just another stepping stone for him along the way. For some reason, John Somers was given a special cue in the play by the conspirators. We don't know why the conspirators choose him, but we can infer that it's because the conspirators knew that he was jealous of the other members of the company. This cue was to occur during the scene with the cannon blasts. He was supposed to pull out his pistol and shoot the Queen. As per Shakespeare’s narration: “No one had noticed anything unusual. No one had seen that sudden, convulsive agitation of the curtains as John Somers was gripped in the stalwart arms of two guards” on 276. In that moment, the conspirators failed. John Somers was pulled away before he pulled the trigger to assassinate the Queen. We don't exactly know what happens to John Somers, but we can infer that he got beheaded beside the others conspirators on tower hill.
