What are Jim Bob’s options? What values must Jim Bob weigh in considering his options? Jim Bob’s options in the situation affect him and Buffy. He has offered to help Buffy by re-writing his paper in a way that she could take credit for it. This shows that he lacks moral values for cheating or “helping”. Jim Bob can choose to do this favor for his friend or he can choose to back out and make Buffy do it herself. Jim Bob may value his education, which he would be putting at risk when he takes the chance of getting caught and getting himself as well as Buffy into trouble. He may also value his friendship and not want to damage it by not helping Buffy out. Jim Bob must decide if his friendship is more important than his education.
4. What are the possible consequences of each of Buffy’s options for (1) herself, (2) Jim Bob, and (3) Professor Snidely? Buffy’s decision out of her two options, may come with consequences for (1) herself. If she decides to cheat she will risk getting into trouble, hurting her education, or even getting her friend in trouble. If Buffy decides to write her own paper she will be getting she grade she deserves for her own work, which may be better than sheexpects. He could get caught cheating and get dropped from his class, a poor grade, or worse. Jim Bob could also be creating an opportunity for a pattern of him taking on not only his work, but Buffy’s work as well. Jim Bob could also be putting his friendship at risk if he decides not to help Buffy.
The decision made will ultimately effect (3) Professor Snidely. The professor will have to analyze both papers and determine if cheating was involved, then have to determine consequences to Buffy, Jim Bob, or even both. This puts extra work and stress on Professor Snidely, which can be avoided by Buffy doing her own work.
5. Given the possible consequences for herself and others, what should Buffy do? Buffy should find the time to write the best possible paper she can in order to achieve a passing grade. Buffy would eliminate problems for both her friend and professor. She will have to find time in her busy schedule to study and create an efficient paper that she will be proud of because it is her own hard work. The best choice in a scenario like this is to eliminate the problem to the person responsible, Buffy, and to have the student put their best effort into the class in order to further enrich
