Once a goal is set and where I need my building to be the next step is developing a plan to get us there and that means improving the quality and safety of the patients. At my facility we look at the five star rating and quality indicators every week and see the progress we are making and also the lack of. This also means developing processes to improve and eliciting the floor staff to assist in making the needed changes. Without the direct staff buy in any process will ultimately fail. In addition to the above we also set smaller, more visible and noticeable goals and create competition between units to increase the performance towards the goal we need. They are given numbers and names to whom they can discuss any problems with and we follow up with them once a week to ensure we are meeting the expectations that were discussed and ensuring no new expectations occurred. We also have a grievance process, which means if a family or patient has a concern or problem we write this on a form and give to the appropriate department to follow up, correct and report back to the administrator and director of nursing.
