It’s natural for people to feel the need to get revenge when something is wrong or unfair has been done to them. If your husband cheated on you, would you just sit there and do nothing about it? Of course not, you would probably go cheat on him as well or maybe divorce him. In this example, seeking revenge will not solve the problem. It will just make things more difficult. Revenge is taking action to hurt someone else. This idea shows up repeatedly in both Hamlet by William Shakespeare and in the Disney movie, The Lion King. In both Hamlet and The Lion King it shows that seeking revenge doesn’t always bring a solution, sometimes justice takes revenge on its own and at the end you’re happier.

Laertes wanted to protect Ophelia his sister from Hamlet and avenge for their father 's death. When he came back from France to see what had happened to his father, he asked Claudius where he was and he replied that he was dead. Then Laertes asks “ How did he end up dead? Don’t mess with me. To hell with my vows of allegiance to you! Vows can go to hell! Conscience, too! I don’t care if I’m damned. I don’t care what happens to me in this world or the next. Whatever happens, happens, but I’ll get revenge for my father’s murder.” Of course, Claudius would take this chance to kill Hamlet because he knows what he did. So he encourages Laertes to kill hamlet with poison and tells him “Hamlet’s so careless, high-minded, and unsuspecting that he won’t examine the swords beforehand, so you can easily choose one with a sharpened point and in one thrust avenge the death of your father”. When Laertes and Hamlet begin fencing, Hamlet starts to notice what Claudius is planning to do and avoids his drinking the cup of water he offered. In the end, all three die from the poison because Laertes and hamlet, both cut each other and Hamlet makes Claudius drink out of the Poisonous cup. Revenge is not the answer in this part of the book because the end solution is that they all died.
