Gun Control is Bad Idea Americans dote on guns. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Many people take advantage of the Second Amendment. Guns are used by millions of people for hunting and safety in the United States. However, a lot of shooting accidents were occurred in recent years. Many people think the Government should implement gun control. Government use laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms in order to control crime and reduce the harmful effects of violence. The Government cannot simply solve this problem by the way of the gun ban. Just implementing gun control does not fundamentally solve the problem. In the article “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson wrote that “The National Rifle Association and its allies tell us that "guns don 't kill, people kill" and urge the Government to punish more severely people who use guns to commit crimes” (Wilson, 127). The National Rifle Association and its allies told is very reasonable. The mistake of homicide case is the people want to kill someone, not what weapon he used. We cannot attribute the mistakes to guns. For example, some years ago, Isla Vista killings case. The attack began when 22-year-old Elliot Rodger stabbed three men to death in his apartment. After he left the apartment, Elliot Rodger got into his BMW and sped across Isla Vista and fired more than 55 times. He fatally shot three people and wounded 13 others before shooting himself. In this case can we said that Elliot Rodger killed people because he had a gun? Absolutely no. Elliot Rodger killed people because he wanted to kill people. He had psychological problems. Even if at that time, the government already implemented gun control, Elliot Rodger would still kill people. That not only will not decrease the number of criminals have guns, but also decrease the number of law-abiding citizens have guns, which make law-abiding citizens lose ability of self – protection. The more important thing is that sources of crime is the people’s thoughts and desires. Each of the shootings the killers was the person who shot, not the gun itself. The Government cannot simply rudely to solve this problem by the way of the gun ban. In the article “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson wrote that “Our goal should not be the disarming of law-abiding citizens. It should be to reduce the number of people who carry guns unlawfully, especially in places -- on streets, in taverns -- where the mere presence of a gun can increase the hazards we all face” (Wilson, 126). James Q. Wilson’s idea is excellent. Government should be to reduce the number of people who carry guns unlawfully and increase efforts to combat crime, rather than simply execute gun control.
