Reflection For Group Work

Improved Essays
This semester I participated in a group project in which we worked with a nursing home in San Antonio to provide residents with a social event, as well as donate Kleenex, stuffed animals, and funds towards the purchase of a TV. Before our project objectives were determined, our group set standards and goals for our project, brainstormed project ideas, and contacted various agencies. During these early processes, I feel I contributed fairly and was a team player. I offered ideas for how our group should operate and was receptive to the ideas of others in my group. Furthermore, I helped the group come up with project ideas, and I contacted potential agencies.
Concerning goals, our group constructed a group contract at the beginning of the semester.

Netting (2012) asserts that successful implementation of a plan requires thorough organization and a clearly defined leader. Throughout the semester, I felt our group stayed well organized and up to date. I find organization important in my personal life, so encouraging and fostering group organization was easy for me. The group structure was clear, and each individual had roles and tasks that they were responsible for. In other group situations, I often find myself in a leadership position, however the clearly defined lead person in our group was Jen. Jen had many good leadership qualities, so it was easy to follow her direction. I liked that she was enthusiastic and the way she led the group was conducive to getting a lot done. Through group organization and the clear establishment of a leader implementation was smooth. When enacting change, Netting (2012) stresses the importance of planning, and I was surprised by how easy it was to reach a consensus within my group. As different ideas where brought up, each member was receptive and open to them; through this, we were able to agree on a plan and strategy for enacting the plan. The most difficult part of this project was getting into contact with an agency, but through persistent communication and effort we were able to overcome this barrier. Although I was frustrated during this stage, it worked out fine in the end, and I was glad we found the nursing home in San

When thinking about my relationship skills I would rate myself a 9 for collaboration, a 6 for conflict resolution and 9 for coaching. Collaboration comes easy for me as I like to work in groups. I find that I look at things differently than I do when working alone, which of course is a key component of collaboration. However, I have to be careful at times as I find it easier to finish certain task quicker when I work alone.…

Every individual has a different education experiences. Over the years of community service, job shadowing and education courses, I have learned that teaching young children is not an easy task. In fact, it may be full of frustrations and different challenges. However, I strongly believe that teachers must make their teaching a lifestyle and not just some job you go to during the week. As a teacher, my goal is to push my students to their full potential.…

Introduction I currently work as a self-harm practitioner in a multidisciplinary community team which provides treatment for people who self-harm and have diagnoses of personality disorder. In my current role I have opportunities to work therapeutically with patients both on an individual basis and in groups. I enjoy being part of this multidisciplinary team and participating in the experiential group. Coupled with knowledge of theoretical concepts and frameworks I feel that this has greatly increased my understanding of what it is to be a member of a work group. In groups we have to be aware of other people, we have to compromise and abandon our own egocentric needs in order to maintain our place in the group, but at the same time group membership…

Myself within the group, I have noticed I enjoy the support we give each and the discussions we have which out outline our goals and knowledge. Though I dislike having to compromise for individuals who I feel aren’t contributing as much as they should with sceptical or no reasons for their reduced contributions. Within an group dynamic I believe we’ve all taken turns leading in short instances, though I believe Freya and Tess did more leading then Alannagh, Karyn and I did, which I did not mind, as I am okay with being a follower. Working in groups within organisations is essential for efficient work as individuals need to be able to communicate their contributions currently and in future to prevent unnecessary conflicts or workloads and to best serve their clients. Hughes and Wearing (2013) speak of the complexities of these dynamics and the huge task of keeping them on track and working and the easy slip into mayhem.…

One conversation that I started during my group discussion time was when I made a connection. The connection was when Junior had a lot of deaths that occurred throughout the book, especially people close to him, and I could relate to that because my old dog named Shay recently died from natural causes. As soon as I said this, specifically Nick and Kevin said that they also had loved ones die from natural causes. Although that they didn’t have a pet that died, they were still very close to them and that’s what makes the connection so accurate between my group and the book.…

As I reflect on my internship I realize it actually started during the summer, my principal asked that I be involved in the Summer Leadership meetings. The school representatives for these meetings were the principal who is a first-year principal with a high school background, the assistant principal who is a first-year administrator and another assistant principal who has spend most of his time in high school, the multi-tiered system of support coach, who is also new to the school and me. This combination was very interesting because I was the only one who had any experience at the school. This combination of administrators has made my internship a bit difficult, simply because they are learning their own roles and responsibilities, so it makes it difficult for them to assign me any of those roles and responsibilities. I have often felt as they feel I am…

Social justice I should be able to challenge social injustice and engaging in this activity shows my commitment. Dignity and worth of the person I believe I showed this to each member by acknowledging them and their opinions. Importance of human relationships this is shown during this group by engaging others as partners in the helping process by asking the members what they would like to do to help. Maintaining Integrity is important in order for everyone to trust you, which I feel I did during this group. This class has served to enlighten and increase my understanding of the distinctions between Pastoral Care, Counseling and Crisis. Before taking this class, I lumped these categories all together as pastoral care. As such, my reactions towards what I deemed pastoral care was very negative in that I felt ill-equipped and was way too intimidated to handle what potentially seemed to be a day to day pastoral care overload. The first eye opener came when I read about the distinctions between pastoral care and pastoral counseling.…

On my last journal, I explained how the Hispanic league was not working for me, and how that awareness transitioned me to switch to The Mental Health Association (MHA) here in Forsyth County. When I met Andy, he gave me a calendar with different scheduled support groups that were going to be established in a particular time and day. On April 12th, 2016, it was a Tuesday afternoon and the group was scheduled to meet seven at night. Though I do not have any classes after five on Tuesdays, I did have a concern with my arrival to the meeting and departure from the support group. Hawthorne road is not that far from Salem College, if you have a car, on the other hand, walking would take some time.…

Individual Reflection Paper As humans, it is within our inborn nature to interact and cooperate with others. This is due to the fact that no one individual is perfect and capable in all ways. We are able to complement each other’s inadequacy through working as a group, hence this is why collective efforts often made things easier as compared to individual effort. While working in groups, we will experience changes in group dynamics and processes.…

We have 5 members in our group of whom 2 were male, and 3 were female. After we were assigned the project, we all came together, and made a commitment to do it better, and succeed at it. Firstly, we welcomed ideas from everyone, without setting any criteria. Our project was to reinvent any product with more features that will be helpful for public. It was a very challenging project because we were to redesign a particular product, which should be more appealing to the costumers in terms of features, solution of particular problems, availability, and cost.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…
