While we read the book Macbeth, and did research on his time period there were many different example of when the witches either helped or hurt the people in the story or in that time period. As a result of that during the time period of King James, their society was not very well known for being kind to those who practiced witchcraft.

After the government in scotland passed the witchcraft act of 1563 it made practicing witchcraft, and talking or being close to anybody who practiced it a capital punishment. An estimated 4,000-6,000 people were tried as witches during and after that law was passed. But what is very weird is that 75% of the people who were tried as witches were women. The answer is some do others do not. For example, back in the time of King James only the really younger or more modern day women who practiced witchcraft were the ones who actually casted spells. They thought when they did this that they could make spirits come from the dead and help their loved ones, or hurt the people who did the witches did not like. Another thing that only certain witches practice is the worship of the devil. Only some people do this because it is considered one of the many christian heresies, which is considered one of the worst sins that any person could ever do. Some also do not worship the devil because it just has no important or literal connection from the devil to witchcraft in general.
Is witchcraft a religion? That's what a lot of people who research witchcraft really want to know when they first start to learn about it. They really want to know about this because it one question that has had researchers stumped for years. The fact of the matter is that witchcraft is a nature based religion, and has a lot to do with the environment and the areas surrounding where the witches lived. However that it is the same as other religions in europe it still has the rights under the european government
