In the respiratory system the lungs are the primary organs. The diaphragm is a muscle that helps the lungs take in oxygen and take out carbon dioxide as we breathe. When air enters our body it goes down the trachea which then branch off into tubes that carry the air inside the lungs. While the air is in the lungs it inflates air sacs called alveoli. When the oxygen passes the walls of the alveoli it goes into the blood vessels which carries the oxygen through out the body to use as needed. While most people think the lungs are the same size they are actually not the same size at all. The right side is a bit more bigger then the left. This is because the left side shares space with the heart. The lungs are also made up of lobes. There are …show more content…

It is the most common out of the three non-small cell cancer. Adenocarcinoma grows slower then most cancer it is also found in current or former smoker. This cancer is mainly found in women more then in men.The way adenocarcinoma is detected is by an biopsy, computerized tomography (CT) scan, or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The treatment for adenocarcinoma is surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. The squamous cell epidermoid carcinoma happens when cells grow out of control. It can form a tumor which can spread throughout the body. Squamous can be detected by chest x-rays, MRI, and PET scans. If cancer is seen in any of these test further testing would be done like sputum sample, biopsy, bronchoscopy, mediastinoscopy, etc. Treatment for squamous depends on what stage the cancer is at as well as the condition the patient is in. The last of the non-small cell lung cancer is the large cell undifferentiated carcinoma. Large Cell spreads more rapid then any other non-small cell. The symptoms for large cell can be undetectable until the late stages of the cancer. Early symptoms can be as minor as a cough, backache, and a mild shortness of breathe. Large cell carcinoma can cause hormone-like symptoms that is called paraneoplastic syndrome which in men can cause the breast to become bigger. Large cell is usually caused by smoking. There are many treatment for large cell cancer like surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and radiation therapy. Small Cell cancer is the second type of lung cancer. Small cell cancer breaks down into two categories small cell carcinoma and combined small cell carcinoma. The respiratory system comprises many organs, such as the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchial tube, and the lungs, that all have responsibilities to ensure that the body receives the right amount of airflow. However, when the respiratory system is exposed to pathogens, or it is not protected, it can create problems such as, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), orthopnea, and many other minor or major diseases that can cause a patient 's respiratory system to become infected. Emphysema is a lung disease (pulmonopathy) that affects the alveoli through breaking down the elastic fibers in the lung, mainly because of proteases, which are the chemicals from immune cells.
