I learned that whichever topic we choose to write, we are targeting certain kinds of audience. These audience are the ones that you are trying to persuade and see things the way you see things. It’s supposed to make them believe the same thing you believe. Pipher also talked about how writing is an art but also straightforward. Most helpful for me is Lamott. Telling the truth can lead to good writing. “It is a matter of persistence and faith and hard work.”(pg.97) Things in life requires all these traits. It all depends on how it used. English was never my favorite subject because of my struggle understanding the content of reading a material. I’m bilingual and English isn’t my first language. I choose to learn more about English by alerting myself with certain words that I randomly hear and understanding it by putting in my own words in a sentence. I have faith in all things that I do which requires a lot of hard work as well. I have to be persistent and being able to make the initiative early to understand what I’m actually reading. I can read a whole essay and say, “I read it.” But it doesn’t mean that I understand it. It’s helpful for me to read it again and as I read it for the second time, I understand each paragraph and write margin comments for the highlights. At the end of the essay, I’ve compiled all my notes and put it in my own words. It’s starting to become a habit and it’s what’s helping for me so far. As Flower states, “… most important tasks… is manage information.” (pg.91) Writing may come easy for others which is great to know. But I know that they didn’t just wake up one day and realize that they are about to write. I’m sure they have ran into some struggles too as well as I have. I’m learning that
