All characters, or a vast majority of them, shows a gray character, developing with the story. This gives the show, unaffected from its fantasy-world setting, a realistic real-world feeling. By not keeping to the standard borders of main stream shows, Game of Thrones rellys on a shock factor to keep its audience. From incest, homosexualism, betrayal and very liberal approach to the topic of sex and sexual identification the show’s ability to shape discourse of fans and their approach to the- traditionally taboo- topics is quite powerful. Not all of these topics, shown with a very casual, day-to-day approach did sit well with the audience, but the exposure of the public to such a discourse, while keeping and expanding its fan-base, shows the power of a good story carried by well written
