A family’s functions are to provide economic support, food, clothing, and shelter. Even though it is very clear what the family functions are, the importance of the family is disintegrating and the execution these functions is lacking.
There is no perfect family. Each family has its own issues, but there is a limit to what is considered acceptable within the family unit. In his book, The Family, Goode establishes that the family can only continue to exist if it is supported by the larger society and that these social systems are interrelated. So the question now is whether the larger society is supportive of the family unit.
The role of the family in socialization is vastly becoming obsolete. There is still the need for the family unit, more importantly in the early development stages.
