Register to read the introduction… Throughout scene three, act three the Friar’s advice is that of a caring nature, yet Romeo, continues to reject it, explaining with good reason, “thou canst not speak of thou dost not fell,” in other words Romeo, tells Friar Lawrence, unless he were in his shoes, he couldn’t possibly understand or say anything.
The following encounters are act four, scene one; This is where Juliet, is now asking advice, as Friar Lawrence realises and tries to object to the marriage of her and Paris, again his intentions are good, understanding that both Juliet and Romeo, would rather kill themselves, than face being apart. He gives Juliet hope and tells her he may have a remedy. Lawrence through this scene has hope and generally, I believe, he thinks his plan will be successful. In his words he says “Hold daughter I spy a kind of hope.”” And if thou dares I give the remedy” Here the solution Friar Lawrence has offered ,would not be that of a genuine priest, However he has prayed on the desperate behaviour of

What were the real reasons behind the mishaps that occurred?
When we look into the position Friar Lawrence, held having that of trust and the expectation of being confidential; also as a priest having the authority to marry. Did he abuse these? For he had already secretly, married Romeo and Juliet, knowingly against the will of her parents. Maybe his reputation was at stake, he also wanted to prevent the marriage between Juliet and Paris, because he knew if it had gone ahead he would have also been in jeopardy of being banished.
Maybe he did really believe he could have saved Juliet from being unhappy or was he protecting his own character?
From his first entrance in the play we are given the impression Friar Lawrence is a moral person, yet his demeanours may have exposed his personality to be that of a more devious nature. Therefore he was protecting himself, from repute.
Overall his advice could be seen as good intentions, yet his lack of communication and haste, resulted in the tragedy of a pair of star-cross lovers. Romeo and
