Ice Age Reflection

Long before the age of humans, the idea of global warming would not have existed. Global warming is the the increase in the world 's temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases (such as carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere (“Global Warming”). This increase in the globe’s temperature is attributed to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the warming caused by certain kinds of “greenhouse” gases absorbing infrared light that would have normally been radiated into space. Infrared light is what allows for the heat caused by light bulbs. This infrared light is absorbed by gases like carbon dioxide that are present in the atmosphere (“Greenhouse Effect”). Ever since I was in elementary school I knew about global warming. I had heard of it on the news, from my parents, from my friends, and from my teachers. All I knew was that it had something to do with the Earth getting warmer, but I had no idea what any of its effects were, the rate at which it was happening, or why it was such a big deal. Another thing that led me to choose this topic was the movie Ice Age. Ice Age was one of my favorite movies when I was growing up. The main plot deals with animals who have to move away from their homes because of the melting of the ice they used to live on. When I was a little kid I had no idea that this was meant to symbolize global warming. However now that I knew a little bit about what global warming is and its effects I wanted to research if what happened in the movie was actually possible in real life. If a random person was asked if they knew what global warming was, there is a good chance that they would say yes, because it is just something that everyone has heard of.
