Which one of you nuts has got any guts?
I’ve discovered one of my favorite films in film history class. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was a phenomenal and unforgettable film directed by Milos Forman.
This film premiered in 1975 and is considered one of the best New Hollywood films.
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is a great example of the director’s work and also undeniably one of the best films ever made in the history of movie making. Why is this a great example of the director’s work you might ask? This question is almost too easy to answer. Milos Forman was a known actor, screenwriter and director in Czechoslovakia up until 1968 when he decided to come to the United States. Setting the bar high upon his arrival in the USA he directed and perfected One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. This film was such a success and has the awards to prove it. Winning Oscars in the five most important categories: Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture and Best Screenplay. At this point in time the only other film to win all five awards was It Happened One Night in 1934.

A film that was far from the established genres Hollywood was used to. A war film, crime film or a western was expected, but a drama focusing on mental illness and the question of a cultural war was something ambiguous and intriguing to millions of people. The Hollywood Renaissance films were more focused on capturing the human drama of everyday life. Milos Forman takes it to the next level by shooting the film at Oregon State Mental Hospital and including real patients as extras in the film. According to Actor Vincent
