Robin Williams was a famous actor and comedian known for his improvisational performances. Some of his greatest work is the Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. Additionally, he suffered from Lewy body dementia and chronic depression.

The famous comedian and actor Robin Williams was born on July 21, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois (Biography.com, 2016). Shortly after developing his own improvisational style as a stand-up comedian, he obtained his own television show, Mork and Mindy. He also got the lead part in the film Popeye. He played many unforgettable film roles, including dramatic and comedic and soon after won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in Good Will Hunting.

In the summer of 2006, Williams admitted himself to a rehabilitation facility for alcoholism and became sober. Therapy for his chronic depression and antidepressants would have been a potential treatment plan. Sadly, Williams never fully recovered from his depression, and died at the age of sixty-three, of from asphyxia due to hanging. Williams’ major accomplishments in acting and comedy will be remembered forever.
Reflection
Although Williams led a successful, prosperous career, he was never able to fully recover from his chronic depression or alcoholism. Something that I find remarkable about Robin Williams was that even with all the struggles he had with addiction and chronic depression he was still able to be very successful. He used acting and comedy as coping mechanisms for his depression and addictions.
