Family Genogram Analysis

Genograms are family relationships represented in a picture. They exhibit family patterns, functioning and emotional relationships. I decided to do my genogram based upon my maternal grandparents. Due to my experience creating a genogram, family secrets, medical issues and education levels are analyzed. As the index person on the genogram, I will gain a understanding of myself and my spirituality.

Background
Families can be very diverse. My maternal side of the family is African American. We are all working class individuals, Christians and were raised in church. Most of the women in my family are single mothers or divorced. The background of my family are deep into South Carolina.

There were about 3 known affairs that happened in my family. The first affair my family experienced was between my grandfather, L.C. and grandmother, Vera. L.C had many affairs while him and my grandmother was together. She knew about each one and was content. However, she did not know about the affair with Naomi. My grandfather had a short affair with Naomi before he decided to marry her. This decision of marriage was a shock for my grandmother. But she decided to get a divorce and let him marry another woman.
The next affair my family faced was between Ted and Joan. Joan dated my Uncle Ervin and had a daughter, Chantel together. Ted was my Aunt Diane’s husband, they had four children together. Joan, Ervin, Ted and Diane were friends, but Ted and Joan had an affair and relationship after 10 years of friendship. Once the affair was exposed by Diane divorced Ted and Ervin ended their relationships with Joan. Soon after the divorce, Joan was pregnant by Ted with Dominique. Ted and Joan stayed together until Ted passed

Antrena was married to Epps and they had two children. But ten years into their marriage, Antrena began to date online. She soon met Jay and fell in love with him. However, he had a wife. They both decided to get divorces and date each other and recently got married.
Another family secret involves murder. Desean was in a relationship with his children; DJ and Austin’s mother. The relationship ended and a few years later, Desean married a woman named Veronica. They soon had a daughter, cherish. A few years into their marriage, Desean’s children was placed in his and Veronica’s custody because DJ and Austin’s mother was murdered in her apartment. DJ and Austin came home to find their mother stabbed in the chest. As young children, Veronica began to raise them as if they were her own children. The murderer was never found and the only suspect was their mother’s boyfriend.
Another family secret is that every male in my family have gone to jail. Majority of the sentencing was due to narcotics distributions. My uncles, and cousins were known to go to jail for 2 or more years because they distributed narcotics and was
