It is for this reason that America has yet to find an effective solution that works for schools nationwide that is “progressive” as well as “consistent” in the field of education. The articles and the book that we have read so far in class have left me a bittersweet taste in my mouth. I think about how far we have come and how many steps we continue taking backwards. The issues surrounding education seem to share the same common factors of race, high expectations, and hidden agendas.…

Teachers Are Underpaid In the United States, educators are valued for being more than just a teacher by society. Educators not only nurture and enrich student’s minds, but they are also preparing them for the future. They are the stepping stones to the student’s pathway of success. K-12 teachers around the country, with the exception of the East Coast (like Rhode Island), are often overworked, overwhelmed, and usually underpaid; this is due to the lack of funding, and because of the time and dedication that is required to succeed in their profession.…

Over the years the Maryland Education system has made changes in their process of evaluating teacher progress during a school year. During that time Maryland has adopted the Common Core Standards and has applied and was awarded a federal Race to the Top Grant. Apart of that process, Maryland made State assessment data that measure student growth apart of the evaluation process. Their goal was to identify and support educators who are effective to improve student growth. Their rationale behind this decision is to ensure that students have educators who are effective at increasing student achievement so they can be college and career ready.…

These are the three areas that I have grown the most in during this project. When I first started this project I already had some background knowledge of the Danielson Framework.…

James Popham notes that educators today are facing intense pressure to show their effectiveness. This is because their outcome is now measured by the outcomes of their standardized tests. When a school scores highly on the standardized test, it is seen that the staff are working efficiently. If the results are low then the school’s staffs are not effective. This system, the author says, is the wrong yardstick to use to measure the quality of education (Popham n.p.).…

A 2012 study by The RAND Corporation, a leading research nonprofit, found that “teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.” Teachers play the role of educating students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. In many instances, teachers provide important role modeling for students who may not have it at home, and school itself provides stability and consistency for high needs students. Teaching is so much more than just giving pointless assignments and incredibly hard tests that make students question, “What’s the point?” It is a career which helps shape students to be the best that they can be and it takes a very special person to do that.…
