Influence Of Interest Groups

First off, it is in the best interest of the people that interest groups do not have so much influence on the law. I believe most interest groups only promote their own self-interest and sometimes have little to no knowledge on policy issues. A good example to break down the way interest groups work stated “Despite the array of interest groups in American politics, however, not all interests are represented equally , and the result of competition among various interests are not always consistent with the common good” (We the People Pg. 434). Groups like the “National rifle association PAC donate money to political candidates and office holders on behalf of The National Rifle Association, which represent the interest of gun control” I believe is just another example of an interest group taking control of how they think the law should be (We the People Pg. 536). This type of group influences not only the people, but the government too. I do not think that interest groups use their knowledge to influence people because it is their money that get one foot in the door to be heard. Although, I do believe some of these people are in these types of group to help raise awareness. It is my opinion interest groups are going by getting their point across the wrong way. The National Rife Association group does not want to limit gun control, but rather increase the use of gun control. The “NRA suggest that gun owner are not member” but fail to realize it is the gun control law that allow people to buy guns (The Washington Post). The National Rifle Association has a great deal of power when it comes down to gun control. In A survey taken in July stated that “13 percent of Republicans think the NRA has too much influence”. President Obama “waved the white flag on guns”. (Washington post) I think that the National Rifle Association should fall in line with our president on gun control. We the people should voice our opinion more in support of our president on this issue. I believe with more restriction on gun control it will help put a stop to the massacre. I am not saying that this will stop deaths by gun because I do not believe that guns are not the problem. Relatively the people that are using them to commit these horrible acts are the problem and should go through more harsh back ground checks. I believe that the NRA helps make this possible for these type of people to get guns and this is why I think that there power should be limited. However, the National Rifle Association will not acknowledge that they have little control over people with guns. I believe laws are put in place to save lives, not take them. I think interest groups such as the National Rifle Association uses their rights as citizens to get ahead in which I believe are freedom of speech and their willingness to raise aware against the government. To sum up my opinion of interest groups I would say that these groups are formed with the hopes of changing law to better us as people but, sometime their personal feelings get in the way of their decision making.
