Kentucky State Police Officer
The goal to pursue a career as a Kentucky State Police Officer (KSP) has been part of my plans since I was in elementary school. To my first job as a Pee Wee League Umpire to my current position as a Community Education Assistant Supervisor for children, the majority of my work and volunteer services has been serving others. Serving in this commonwealth and keeping others safe is a passion of mine. A career in law enforcement is a respectful job, as police officers serve to maintain law and order. When practicing the skills learned from sociology this enables the use of ideas being put into evidence. Sociology guides one to gain a better understanding of how communities and families function and interrelate. Different types of potential conflicts that can arise among and between different kinds of communities. Being an officer who has studied sociology will give me a deeper understanding of factors that affect community dynamics such as race, economics and diverse social customs. Becoming a KSP officer is much more than just a job it’s an honor. The minimum requirements to be a KSP office is that you must be a citizen of the United States of America, of good moral character and in good health, not less than twenty-one (21) years of age, possess a valid driver’s license against which no more than six (6) driver dement points have been assessed, and at the time of application, posse a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or credits from an accredited college or university Police officers have many criminal justice career opportunities that can be obtained through training, tenure and education. Detective, Crime Scene Investigator, Community Liaison Officer, Narcotics Officer and SWAT Officer is just a few examples of some of the police jobs available. Webb 3
In addition, the job responsibilities of a trooper include enforcing state laws with the goal of promoting safety, responding to disorderly conduct, preventing disturbance and riots, relaying the evidence to detective and preparing testimony for court appearances. Law enforcement officers are required to document evidence, conduct interviews, and take appropriate photographs of crime scenes. At the scene of an accident, a trooper may be required
