“Why college education is important to me?

Being raised in a family with no expectations of receiving higher education, I missed on the opportunity to go to college in my early years. However, the expectations were to find a job and work hard. I worked at Federal Express for 15 years and felt my life was unfulfilled. The following quote inspired me to pursue an education: “My people perish because of lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6a, King James Version).” I became very interested in books and I began reading and researching many different subjects. I recognized that it wasn’t too late for me to go to college and after considerable thought I applied. College education is important to me because it will challenge me into becoming a better

Education was not the centrality in my home. I could blame my parents for the inadequacy of learning, but I won’t. The highest grade achieved by my parents was 5th grade. Having only an elementary education, they mainly dealt with the cards that were given to them by their parents. Up to this very day I can hear the words of my parents saying "it’s about hard work" echoing in my head. Hard work was the motto that was emphasized in the home. The same values instill in them were passed onto their children. The trend continued as all my siblings dropped out of school to work, except for me. I chose to be the first to break the cycle by graduating from high school. After many years, I have returned to school to receive a college education. The opportunity to go to college has gone far beyond my expectations. Being able to take this class has been an achievement on its own. Helen Keller a woman whom I greatly admire once said “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Helen Keller, who was deaf and blind, looked further in life than anyone will ever do. She became the first person to receive a bachelor’s degree with her disabilities. Nevertheless blinded, was able to see, being deaf could hear so clearly. I too can hear clearly my calling and see my future so vividly, without a shadow of a doubt; college education is the key to my success.
In conclusion, why college education is important to me? College education will make me a man of integrity, reliable with good character, a feeling of achievement and accomplishment. I will continue to move forward, knowing that these changes are not far beyond my reach. Socrates sums it up lovely by saying "The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance." College education isn’t just a means of getting by in society, but a way to prepare and shape the present while highlighting my
