Personal Narrative: Why Two Heads Are Better Than One

Improved Essays
After reading the assignments out of our book it was very obvious that we were going to have a project that goes with the reading we just completed. After going through the whole process and through all the ups and downs it allows for me to give an answer to the question, “Are two heads really better than one?”. Since this project was completed and as the project was very productive I can state that I do believe two heads is better than one. But not every time you work with a group is the assignment you are working on completing better. The trick is to follow many of the things we read out of the book to make sure you all are able to reach your one main goal.
On the first day we meet with our groups we wanted to make sure we started all our

We also assigned to each other what subtitles we would work on and complete. To make them even we each took two and Chris took three as one of his was a topic that didn’t have as much information. During day two we did have a leader stick out. The leader in our group most of the time was Lauren, the way she stood out as the leader so soon was she was the one that stepped up and said she would create a google document so we could all put our notes in one area and each of us would be able to see what the other individuals in our group were …show more content…
Today as a group we finalized how we were going to make the powerpoint and we began working on the kahoot. With all of us following Lauren’s idea of each individual putting in at least two questions in the kahoot. With Lauren stepping up in helping lead our group it definitely allowed for our group to work more efficient but the best thing about Lauren being our leader was she wasn’t bossy about anything she did and if we didn’t totally agree on something she said she was fine with it. Through our group making sure we would all be ready for our presentation monday we decided to make a groupchat to finalize everything so we would be able to pull off a great presentation.
To reiterate the question from before I do believe two heads are better than one. Through me putting my brain together with others I do believe we were able to pull out a better presentation than if we all did this topic by ourselves. In the group we were each able to contribute are only personality, ideas, and all learn new things together in a judge free

The groups were decided at random, and I was placed luckily with two very close friends, Josefeth and Reyna, and Kevin, a student who did not have the best reputation for completing his assignments. I felt from the beginning that I might end up doing more work than Kevin, but I decided to trust that he would not let the group down when so many points were at stake. We began delegating responsibilities amongst ourselves and made progress as they days went by. Nearing the deadline, we checked on each others progress a few days prior to the due date. Reyna, Josefeth, and I had each completed our segments of the assignment, and Kevin had assured us that he, too, had completed his portion.…

We each discussed what we are hoping to gain both personally and professionally and discussed areas that we each hoped to improve. With that information in mind, we concentrated heavily on task-focused leadership. We began by directing our efforts on getting organized. Every team meeting began with debriefing and reflecting the results from the previous periods simulation run. We then would lay out the agenda for that day, make decisions as a group, and conclude each meeting with the closing comments and possible ideas for the next round of decisions.…

As we approached the deadline, little, if anything, had been accomplished. This was when I realized the true point of being a leader. I needed to take the front line and motivate my group members to work. Surprisingly, we won first place and when asked to give a speech, I passed it to one of my fellow group members. I later realized that many great leaders follow the same guidelines.…

If you emailed us right now saying that we were going to be doing this again tomorrow, I’d be certain that we would for the most part have the whole facilitation planned out and ready to go. Which we did for our first idea, however we just thought it would’ve been too easy and wouldn’t have been a great example for conflict resolution. Additionally if we were to do this again tomorrow I’d hope Spencer would be there. Resembling to what I expressed earlier in the response, Spencer would’ve made sure we didn’t end up making a fool of ourselves, he would’ve made sure we all knew what our specific roles were and made sure everything made sense. That’s just his personality.…

Teamwork is an important part of any success group progress and so we chose to include that in the assessment of our group and its processes over the quarter. We chose to focus on four of the group assignments for everyone to give their input on: Module 1 Individual Application Activity: Forming a Course Group, Identity Project Medium Approval and Draft Outline, Module 4 Group Application Activity: Group Process Discussion Activity, and Module 5 Group Application Activity: Analyzing Group Culture: The Guild. When were were completing the first module assignment, Forming a Course Group, the experience of our past teamwork lead us to forming this group which we know would function well together. Our group had worked together in the past on various assignments and group projects. We had worked previously on a project with another class, so we knew how to work with each other, and what our strength and weakness were.…

During this time, the group showed the professor their research project. After she looked at it, she gave the group feedback on what they could do to improve the project. The group conferences were helpful, but I feel like it would have been better to have class so group members could work. Personally, I found it hard to contact members outside of class and find a time to meet that works for everyone. I would have rather spent time in class working on the project together than trying to work outside of class.…

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

Group Co-Facilitation Papers Seeing that most of the sessions were running with a sad story, we wanted to come up with something different. Something that will empowered the group members to lift up themselves and have a positive attitude in their life. It was a long journey, each time after our morning class, we tried to figure out what we were going to talk about and finally, one of our teammate came up with “Positive Affirmation.” I told them also about Self-Esteem but they wanted to stick with this topic…

I was one of the overall leaders, and to be honest, I had no idea what to do at the beginning. In fact, I started to get ideas of what to do when the cafe building was halfway over. In addition, once the plan settled into shape, everything went smoothly because all the group members have done their jobs in time. However, since everyone has different background and personality, each person has a different view of the problem so sometimes we found difficulty to associate the ideas together. It was also hard to divide the part in a fair way because basically the tasks given for us were five but there are only four people in one group. If the parts were divided in a wrong way, some people would think they were doing more jobs and that is why we had spent many times to distribute the…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A group of people working on a project brings more ideas to the table and potential diversity. Talking about everyone’s ideas and finding ways to incorporate them together or just listen to others ideas can make your mind think more out of the box. A group of people can be great due to different gender roles in the mix. Having a man 's experience and women 's experience could be very beneficial especially when we have different backgrounds. Also, men and women tend to have different views on things which could bring on a debate and open our minds to thinking of different reasons and explanations.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…
