Training helps organizations improve its performance and productivity. Training matters to multiple levels of society and it is thought as” the planned and systematic activities designed to promote the acquisitions of knowledge”(Salas). According to research in 2000 alone, US organizations have spent over $50 billion on the training of employees (Making Teamwork Work). Training Programs will only be effective if the skills and behavior learned are transferred to the workplace. It is extremely important that organizations help employees do things differently -to-better performance and to increase the levels of job satisfaction. Thus training is based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. It will help organizations gain competitive advantage …show more content…
Different companies may have different objectives that can be fulfilled by on the job training and off the job training. On the job training is conducted in the workplace. The aim of this type of training is to make employees familiar with the work situation. During the training period, employees will gain experience through the use of machinery, equipment, tools, and materials. The trainees will learn by following instructions given by a supervisor, or by watching experienced employees demonstrate how to perform a specific task. On the job training is practical, inexpensive, and suitable for manufacturing firms. While off the job training is conducted away from the workplace, and most of this type of training is considered “classroom training”. Off the job training is done to provide a stress- free environment where employees can concentrate only on learning. Some common techniques used include case studies, audiovisuals, simulations, conferences, and lectures. It is carried out by professionals, is theoretical, and expensive. The importance of training is that HR will screen incoming employees while also improving on the quality of current employees to produce beneficial organizational outcomes. These outcomes will improve the employee’s competitive positions against their rivals. HR training has been considered one of the top 5 strategies and training can be considered a resource preemption strategy. Training will have a positive impact on the individual, the organization, and nation. Management must ensure that they continue to build on designing, delivering, and implementing training effectively to ensure training effectiveness. All forms of employee training have shown that when training is designed systematically and based on learning it will yield positive results to the company.
