You can physically raise your have and ask a question if you are struggling with something. The teacher is right there to give you feedback. Your classmates are also there to explain things. People rely on you talking in class as a means of communication. With that being said, discussions can get out of control when people talk. When someone is talking loud, usually that person is being heard the most and that can be unfair. You can get out of participating in conversations if you are shy. It is up to the teacher to be in charge of everyone in the class and how they behave. They are there to scold you to get your homework done. They are also there to lecture you on the content. Also, in a traditional class, you usually sit next to someone, which allows you to talk to them and learn more about them. Unfortunately, you are limited to just the people in that class to learn more about. You don’t need many materials for an online class, but the ones you do need could be expensive. You should have a computer, which could be either a desktop computer or laptop of some sort. You also need to have the book that is being used by the class. The book can be very expensive if you are not given the option to rent it. You also need any program that the class might require. Department of Education discovered that on average, students involved in online learning performed better than those that received traditional instruction (“Abstract,” pg 6). Online education is ideal for people who are self-motivated, are able to learn things by themselves, and who may not have a lot of time for a traditional class. Whereas a traditional class is perfect for people who need more discipline, need more face-to-face interaction, and ask a lot of questions. I have taken classes from both learning environments and have thought that I have been taught well in each class I am or have been involved in.
