The Torah is something I rely on when seeking a deep connection with G-d, and somewhere I turn to when expanding my knowledge on Jewish history. When studying Torah and reading words such as, “G-d breathed into you the breath of life,”(Genesis) I feel at one with God. I feel as if a piece of God’s life started mine. Knowing God’s active role in human creation, it is evident to me that G-d cared about my own creation, and created me as an important entity. Secondly, when writing assignments for Bible, when pondering why we fast, or attempting to understand traditions, I turn to the Torah. It is When I read the Bible that I am able to trust the validity of the text and know that it is not altered or based on interpretation. As Dr. Schorsch states, “The Torah is the foundation text of Judaism,”(Sacred Cluster). Dr Schorsch believes that scripture is the basis for the Jewish religion. In addition, Norman Lamn addresses the importance of the Bible when he states, ”I believe the Torah is a divine revelation in two ways; in that it is God given and in that is Godly…what he said must be intelligible to humans…the study of Torah therefore is not only a religious commandment per se, but the most exquisite and the most characteristically Jewish form of religious experience,” (Jewish belief). Schorsch and Lamn’s ideologies that Judaism is religiously based on the Torah are ideas that I strongly connect to. Israel’s ideas further my own beliefs as he explains that the Torah is the Jewish people’s religious document, a divine scripture. Israel’s words not only impact my ideas of the relationship, the bases for Jewish religion and the Torah, but also point to the ways in which the Torah acts as the Jewish
