At first, the narrator seems confused and doubtful of his ability to make the right decision. After he has chosen his path, he faces trials and questions if he made the right choice, saying, “oh, I kept the first for another day” (13). He is afraid that he made the wrong choice and comforts himself by saying that he can change his mind and take the first path. However, by the end of the poem he is confident in his choice and of all he has accomplished. Although it was hard, he takes comfort in the fact that his choice got him to the place that he wanted to be. In the end, he securely says, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference” (18-20). He is proud of everything that he has accomplished and he admits that taking the more challenging path has made a positive difference in is life. This quotation has become so famous because of the narrator’s overwhelming confidence in his decision, and how the harder path was ultimately the best path for him.
