We should make the warning labels on cigarettes stronger. The warning labels should be in big, bold letters on the front and list every single cancer causing chemical in it. We should also raise the age limit for buying cigarettes because it limits how young you can start smoking. The Institute of Medicine stated that raising the cigarette age to twenty-one will have a positive impact on teens and save lives (Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids). Older kids in high school will be less likely to legally purchase cigarettes for their younger friends, if the age limit is twenty-one. About 580 kids under the age of eighteen become smokers everyday, and one in three will eventually die young as a result from smoking (Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids). We need to save teenagers lives and change the legal smoking age to twenty-one. We should raise cigarettes prices and make it expensive so that people will be less likely to buy them. It would be really effective if the prices were so high that not many people could afford them. We should make smoking cigarettes illegal. The nicotine in cigarettes is as addictive as heroin or cocaine, and those drugs are illegal, so cigarettes should be too. We should uniform public smoking bans and follow the example of Washington. In a world without cigarettes there would be less premature death and a longer life span. Imagine a world without having to smell that nasty cigarette smoke or having to deal with smokers cough. Picture a world where you don’t have to worry about your young siblings or children messing around with this harmful substance; or worrying about getting second hand smoke yourself.
