Infidelity in Marriages: Crime or Act of Human Nature With the release of her new album, Fantasia Barrino seemed to be finding her way back to glory. All of her success was soon overshadowed by the ‘home-wrecker’ allegations that had become the topic of all media sources. Fantasia met Antwaun Cook in August of 2009 while visiting a local store, and soon after they began dating. In June 2012, Paula Cook, wife of Antwaun Cook, filed for a divorce and named Fantasia as a key reason for the dissolution of her and Antwaun’s marriage. It is unclear whether or not Fantasia knew of Antwaun’s marriage prior to the blossoming of their relationship. Although Antwaun was the one at fault, being as

I am sure everyone defines a marriage as such, or at least I hope they do, but in some cases a spouse or both spouses neglect the monogamous concept of it and find themselves involved in extramarital affairs. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “infidelity is defined as a lack of belief in a religion, unfaithfulness to a moral obligation, or marital unfaithfulness or an instance of it” (Infidelity). “Infidelity occurrence is viewed as marital betrayal” (Allen 243). In marriages, there is a moral obligation to remain true to their mate, but infidelity, or should I say marital unfaithfulness, would be unfaithfulness to that moral obligation. Infidelity is the leading cause of marriage dissolution and the single act is destroying the purpose of monogamy. “Approximately 97% of Americans believe infidelity is unacceptable, yet many people engage in extramarital sex” (Campbell …show more content…

There are stirrings of a grassroots ‘marriage movement.’” However, they also state that “These positive trends bear watching and are encouraging, but it is too soon to tell whether they will persist or result in the revitalization of this critical social institution.” In other words, we will have to wait to see how these new ideas affect marriage as an institution moving forward. Over all their use of analyzing data as a base for their ideas about marriage works very well and keeps them from being biased. The article is informative and allows the reader to form their own opinion on the subject and the authors were able to clearly explain the cultural shift that has taken place in America…

Steinbock’s Limited Application of the Immorality of Adultery At first glance, it seems as though adultery in our culture is mostly regarded as an issue of private matter, it chiefly involves spouses. But on closer inspection it appears that the common consensus (that most hold, not all) on adultery fails to recognize the repercussions of holding such a notion. This is because, as Steinbock argues, the way we view adultery affects the thoughts and feelings on love, marriage, and family (for the purposes of this essay I will not delve too deeply on this point because it is so overarching but rather use this point to raise issue). So, then, it holds that although adultery is a private matter one must not regard it as “morally neutral”.…

Forgiveness When working with couples of infidelity one could use the interpersonal model to establish forgiveness back into the relationship. The model was created to focus on forgiveness as the main component of this process in order to promote healing for the couples who decided to stay together after infidelity. Since infidelity causes damage to the trust and stability of a relationship, forgiveness is necessary. When treatment includes forgiveness, clients experience an increase in hope, self-esteem, self-forgiveness and positive thoughts toward the transgressor and a decrease in anger, anxiety, grief, negative thoughts and feelings, and depression (Fife, Weeks & Stellberg-Filbert, 2013).…

Effrosyni Adamopoulou published a paper creatively titled “New facts on infidelity” in 2013. The paper, as one might suspect, is a short article detailing new, empirical facts about infidelity. It glosses over the brief economic examinations of infidelity in the past, and addresses what has been lacking in these past examinations. Adamopoulou makes several statements about infidelity; one that it is an activity that peaks in the summer, two that in America men and women cheat about equally, and that the socioeconomic status of an adulterer is not related the likelihood of extramarital affairs. The article is brief, blessedly, and the author is very plain in their speech, and the findings are not only simple, but hold up under scrutiny.…

I agree with Balswick & Balswick statement, “The high rate of divorce in most Western cultures supports the notion that it is difficult to establish a strong marriage in a postmodern society.” (Balswick & Balswick, 2014, p. 79) In today’s society the stability of marriage is not grounded without a biblical aspect of keeping Christ at center. Marriages should be man and women becoming one, in the aspect of unity being established by vows of promises and not build on rules and conditions. With rules and conditions it creates a positon for self-worth and greediness to enter the unity of a marriage.…

The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is an important and relatable piece of literature. In the play, Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, commits very immoral deeds and faces consequences for them. His first immoral action was killing his brother, King Hamlet, by putting poison in his ear while he slept. He did this because it meant that he would be able to take his place as king. He also killed King Hamlet because he wanted to steal his wife, which he did, and married her about two months after he killed the king.…

The aim of the study was to further delve into the concept of jealousy occurring differently within females as it does in males, focusing on evolutionary psychology, in regard to childbearing and loss of resources through infidelity. Participants were given two hypothetical scenarios, one involving sexual infidelity and the other involving emotional infidelity, and were asked to identify which one they found more distressing. The results indicated emotional infidelity was perceived as more upsetting for women and men found sexual infidelity more distressing. This was shown not only in their voiced responses but in their physiological responses as well. This presented a further understanding of human relationships and adaptation that has occurred to cause these subconscious physiological responses to emotional triggers, and how they differ between men and…

When it comes to conflict in intimate relationships, the way in which partners engage in resolving it can either strengthen or weaken their relationship. Relationships that form may inherit conflict due to different cultural, familial, religious, and value backgrounds. In regard to intimate relationships, there are important areas of communication where conflict has a greater chance of arising, such as inefficient communication, incompatible sexual values, personality, other relationships, drug addiction, and opposing expectations of gender roles, (Madden & Janoff-Bulman, 1981; Schaap, Buunk, & Kerkstra, 1988) “. In 1987, Hazan and Shaver published a study that took the idea of romantic relationships and redefined them as attachment relationships.…

Infidelity across the genders There is a significant amount of research on sex differences in jealousy, mate guarding, and responses to an act of infidelity, but there is little research focused on sex differences regarding other factors surrounding infidelity such as; what acts constitute infidelity, rates of infidelity, types of infidelity committed, and justifications for infidelity. It is important to study other factors surrounding infidelity because there are many stereotypes regarding sex differences in infidelity, but not many people look at the research behind those assumptions. First, let us define infidelity. Infidelity is the act of being unfaithful to a spouse or partner where it is assumed within the relationship that both…

Introduction Repentance and forgiveness are not only crucial aspects of coming closer to Christ but are also crucial aspects in coming closer together as a family. However, the world often views forgiveness as a weakness, or an inhibitor in progression, as it encourages more mistakes in marriages. Yet according to the doctrine of Christ, both repentance and forgiveness are required to be able to form a healthy relationship with our Heavenly Father and also a healthy relationship with others.…
