Dancehall music is a new style music that can be traced to Jamaica popular music that has its roots in the political disruptions in the Republic of Jamaica in late 1970’s . The music became more famous between 1981 and 1991. ( C.J.Cooper, 37). The music is attributed as a xhenomenon of ‘rude boys’ who settled in Jamaican ghettos due to high unemployment rates. The rate of unemxloyment in Jamaica stood at 35 percent in 1962. The delinquency behavior of the ‘rude boys’ and inability to get a meaningful job made them to turn into violent crimes as they were seen as disturbers of status quo ( Gunnia, 1340).

Dancehall music is a new xath for moral degradation among young people. Dancehall music has become a symbol of explicit sexual imagery and violence. The music has been criticized for condoning sexual violence which led to banning of some songs ( Luton 2009, 1). Despite the positive effects Dancehall music might have on our young people, it has become more a pathway for moral degradation with our young people.
Statistical analysis in Jamaica show that 19 percent of male and percent females are implicated in violence related acts in school, homes and communities. Out of these 7 percent of the females and percent of the males related cases were reported to the school administration with the effect that 3 percent of the female and 3 percent of the female students were find culpable and suspended (A.D.
