Introduction
The role of change agent is only one in a leader 's constellation of roles, but in today 's competitive global environment of dwindling resources, competing priorities and increased demand for higher education, it 's a highly critical one.
There can be variety of changes that can be brought about in an organization – total quality management, restructuring, cultural change and total turn around. However, the basic goal has been to bring a fundamental change in the way of conducting business in a new, changing and competitive market environment.

With changing times and fickle consumers, a successful leader must have attributes like poise, patience, time to think and ability to connect dots of opportunities. The competitive and evolving market place have made it difficult to for a leader to stay ahead of the times. As a result, the demand for a leadership that is willing to change and capable of tackling change management is high.
Change management these days is not only restricted to operational improvements, cost efficiencies and process re-engineering but also, has become a much bigger, more interwoven part of business environment. It is basically a leadership requirement to get things done regardless of hierarchy or rank. A leader basically has to be a catalyst for change in an organization.
According to an article ‘Leading Change – Why Transformation Efforts Fail’ by John P Kotter, the most general lesson to be learned from the more successful cases is that the change process goes through series of phases and usually require a considerable amount of time.

Higher the emotional intelligence more positive is the reaction. Such employees experience less job insecurities, are more effective in team leadership and performance and are good at dealing with the stress as opposed to their counterparts.

Communication is a vital element in bringing about an organizational change. In order to ensure success of organizational change, it is important to communicate the information about change in an effective manner to the employees. This also helps to influence the reaction in a positive manner.
3. Participation in Decision Making
Participation of employees in Decision Making essential for acceptance of change and commitment to organization goals. The effect of Participation in Decision Making is greater when change is a tactical change.

According to an empirical study in China, both transformational and transactional leadership have a positive impact on organizational change.
