The Ford Mustang has been an American icon since Ford introduced it as a 2-seat concept car at the world's fair, built on the compact Ford Falcon platform in 1962. The car evolved into a 4-seater and was officially released partway through 1964 as a 1965 model. Ford’s intention with the Mustang was to fill a gap between the average commuter car and the Corvette. The Mustang inspired a new class of cars referred to as “pony cars.” Pony cars were affordable compact cars with sporty styling and an emphasis on performance. It didn’t take long for General Motors to get its Mustang competitors on the road. By 1966, the 1967 Camaro, as well as the Pontiac Firebird, entered the market. The Camaro is the better of the two cars for several reasons I …show more content…
Then in mid-64 the mustang was born, and Chevy was quick to respond in 66, and that started this whole debacle, where they go back and forth for the next 50 years. When the mustang came out in 64.5 it had a 289ci v8 with 210 horsepower, and the camaro had a 396ci v8 with 325 hp, which gave the camaro a distinct advantage over the mustang. The camaro does 0-60 in 8.0 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 15.0. The mustang did 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and the quarter in 15.3(motor trend). When you search "camaro vs. Mustang" over 4 million results pop up and 2 million videos. Henery Ford once said "Automotive racing started right after the second car was built". Another factor when looking at these cars are the transmissions the mustang had a better 3 speed auto whereas the camaro had a 2sp auto, but both had 4 sp manual trans. The real seller of these cars was the straight-line performance, the camaro is the hands down winner on this therefore it is the first reason on why it's …show more content…
The newset of these cars are much different of the ones from the past. Before, all everyone ever cared about was the ¼ mile times, well that’s still relevant, but now more people are looking at track times and handling capabilities. Looking at the new camaro it has a 6.2l LT1 that makes 455hp and 455tq, and the mustang has the same 5.0 "coyote" that was introduced in 2010, but it has been revamped for this 2018 year and now has 460 hp and 420 tq. Now back to the track stuff, each car has a distinct "trak pak" option to choose when building a car. For the camaro, it’s the 1LE pack, which gives magnetic ride, Goodyear eagle F1 supercar tires, brembo brakes, recaro racing seats, a strut tower brace, and a e-LSD. With the mustang it's called the "GT performance pack", which gives almost the same treatment as the Chevy, but a little less with a little less quality stuff. For example, they both have brembos, strut tower braces, and magnetic ride. The camaro just wins in every specification, especially on track. The camaro and mustang have the equal amount of trims and packages for whatever kind of car you want. Both have all out-track version for the serious drivers. The Chevy has four options, Z/28, ZL1 1LE, and the SS1LE. For the mustang it’s the GT350R and the GT perf. Pack 2. Along with track packs there are also extremely limited drag cars, the camaro is called the "copo", and for ford it's the "cobrba

After numerous crash-tests of Pinto prototypes, many cars ended up in a fiery blaze raising concerns about engineering quality.…

Like the Camaros have better cornering and turning than the Mustangs. The Camaros also have a higher top speed at 160mph, only 5mph faster than the Mustangs, and where are you actually going to go where you can go that fast? One thing that I really wish the Mustangs had that the Camaros have is the Camaros have better suspension. Another thing Camaros all come standard with is power seats and more or better luxury features, but if you just want a street legal race car how cars about that, I know I sure don’t, I just want to go fast. Compared to the Mustangs, Camaros are more of a speedy luxury car then the fast race car feel of a Mustang.…

When shifted quickly in the high RPM ranges, or when one goes from full to no throttle in those high RPMs, the Focus RS lets out a crackle and pop straight out of a WRC competition. The Mustang GT, on the other hand, has a refined V8 sound track that just gets better as revs grow. Another tie and a personal preference. “Inside, the Mustang differs only slightly from the 2017 model, the biggest change being a new, optional 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster with a reconfigurable screen keyed to the selected driving mode (Normal, Sport+, Drag Strip, Track, or Snow/Wet). In the mid-1900’s America’s domestic car companies felt little to no threat by its non-domestic competitors. This began to change in the 1960’s when an influx of affordable, yet quality cars made by foreign companies, gained popularity on American soil. In hopes of regaining dominance as the top automobile provider, Ford Motor Company vouched to create a car that was affordable to all Americans, a model later named the Ford Pinto. Although affordable, costing a small $2,000, the Pinto held many manufacturing flaws, and in the end proved to be a dangerous and even deadly car for the American consumer.…
