How The Corrupt Women In The Great Gatsby

In the book The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays the battle between love and money with Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle, and Mr. Wilson. The minds of these women are corrupted with money, and they are blinded from true love with diamonds and pearls. The men were all about the girls and the alcohol; Except for Mr. Gatsby. Jay Gatsby is an affluent and obsessive man who is in love with Daisy Buchanan, Tom’s alluring and money crazed wife. Their love story goes back five years to when Gatsby was sent to the war and did not return. Daisy was distraught and later married Tom Buchanan of West Egg. The Great Gatsby is based around the 1920’s era or “The Gilded Age.” The 1920’s was a time where people were careless and over half the population was drunk off of liquor and euphoria. This was the prohibition era. People made liquor and other alcohol illegally and sold it speakeasies. Speakeasies are secret bars and pubs where flappers and extremely wealthy people go to party and buy alcohol illegally. When Gatsby returns from the war he hears about Daisy’s marriage to Tom and soon, then finds that she lives in East Egg. Gatsby, filled with sorrow and loneliness, buys the most extravagant house in West Egg right across the bay from the Buchanan’s and throws garish parties every weekend hoping that Daisy will find herself in his house, and then he can find his way back into her heart once again.
