Several who are a part of this class may be illiterate and will most likely not vote in any election because they don’t believe that any political party will help them (pg. 222). The lowest class in the social ladder is the underclass. These are americans who “has little or no connection with the job market” and are likely to be homeless. They rely on welfare, food stamps, and soup kitchens (pg. 223).
Social class impacts one’s physical and mental health, family life, education, religion, politics, and crime/ criminal justice. It all depends on what class they belong to. The upper class have life better and more easy going. The poor have much less job security and significantly less pay than the rich. This day-to-day stress leads to more divorce, crime, and a poor mental state than the rich who can afford therapy and other coping outlets (Henslin pg. 224). Parents who are part of the capitalist class play a larger role in their child’s marriage because their choice of spouse will affect their family line. This kind of pressure is not as likely to be found the further you go down in the social rankings. Divorce is more common in the lower social classes due to job insecurities and poor children are likely to live in broken homes. These children of the lower class are taught more on following rules and obeying authority. The middle class and higher teach their children more of developing their “creative and leadership skills” (pg.225). The more education one has, the more likely they are to be in a higher class. Parents who are already in a high social class send their kids to private schools instead of public because that’s where their child will learn more upper class values. Children of a lower class are less likely to attend prestigious schools
