While it is ironic that his name is Courage, the dog is easily frightened and is always initially cowering in fear of whatever creature he encounters. However, as his name suggests, Courage always faces and overcomes adversity to save and protect Muriel from danger. The purple dog consistently goes out of his way and out of his comfort zone to protect people he holds dearly to him and although he does hesitate at times, he never fails to save Muriel. Courage is an excellent example to represent true acts of courage by confronting his fears to help others. A common anxiety that most people would agree to having is the fear of public speaking. For example, I consider myself to be extremely shy and soft-spoken. When I was involved in a youth organization in high school, each intern was required to give at least one or two speeches at rallies or big events in front of hundreds of people. Whenever it was my turn, I would get so nervous to the point where I wanted to faint. Although I was petrified, I was always determined to get through it, to do the best I can, and get it over with. This is a personal feat of courage for me as public speaking is something I am terrible at and fearful of. Despite it being something that causes me severe dread, I always do it anyway because I know I have to face my fears and that I can only get better and grow from it. Whether it is a big or small accomplishment, being able to brave through and overcome individual challenges is a courageous act on its own and it goes toward personal achievements that will only improve the self in the long
