Four airliners were hijacked and used to carry out a suicide mission. Two planes went to The World Trade Center in New York City, one more went to the Pentagon in Virginia, and the last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania (Belzer 2007). This group of individuals was known as al-Qaeda. Almost three thousand people lost their lives that day and it was known as the first and biggest terrorist attack in American history, on our soil. Whenever I watch the news it’s always about all of the bad things happening in the world. More specifically it is about Syria and the problems in the Middle East. Showing the world what is happening to its people is one thing but when you only display a certain group in negative ways, you will teach the public to view them as such. Whenever a Muslim person is shown on television it is about terrorism or it has something to do with being a victim of some bombing or interrogation in the Middle East. I have never seen a news program show the wonderful thing the Muslim population has done. I have never heard of the good deeds a Muslim-American may have done because the media does not show it. They would much rather focus on the horrible things some few have done. Gruesome beheadings are shown on the news for days while Muslim leaders holding press conferences against terrorism hardly get two minutes of show time (Obeidallah 2014). It is the sad, sad truth but it is how the American media covers Muslim and Islamic issues. Since ISIS has come around the media is only making this problem much, much worse. Showings of ISIS and the problems they create are just about the only real coverage concerning Muslim and Islamic citizens in America that this public will get.
