for example, when I go out with my friends, they always tell me that I have to be home by 10:00, and I have to obey them and go home on time because when I’m not on time there will be a consequence. Last month I went to my best friend’s birthday party and I was surprised that my parents allowed me to go out but I have to be home by 10:00 pm. I was enjoying my time at the party and I didn’t even notice the time and it was 1:00 am. I looked at my phone my parents have 25 missed call and I knew that I’m in trouble. I was grounded for 2 weeks and my mom confiscated my phone because I didn’t answer her phone call. I didn’t feel bad because it’s actually my fault if I was really aware of my time I wouldn’t be on that situation and I still love my …show more content…
My mom used to tell me in the old days they were more strict than today. Their parents don’t let them go out without any companion. They had to do their chores every day before they could go out, and their parents also picked the right guy for them and that is hard because being with a guy that they don’t love is totally unfair. I can’t imagine placing myself in that situation but my parents are using that rule to me and it’s so unfair for my part. For example, there was a time that I had to go to my friend’s birthday party, and my mom wouldn’t let me go out without any companion, so I have to bring my cousin with me to be sure that I went there and didn’t go some other place. I mean I’m old enough to go there alone without any companion with me. I just want to do my own thing and just be me. I want to be independent, and my parents just don’t get it. My parents are being strict because they are afraid of losing me. As I am their only child it’s their responsibility to protect me. Well, to solve this problem I will probably talk to my parents about them being strict and explain myself to them how am I feeling about them being strict. I will also prove them that I can be a good daughter, and I will gain their trust so that they won’t be as strict as before. I just want to live my life without

I think the two essays that are most critical for students to read is “This I Believe” by Jennifer in New York and “This I Believe” by Elizabeth in California. They both have the same title and are similar at the same time. “This I Believe” by Jennifer talks about how people should treat others the way they would want to be treated. This is very important in life. You should never treat someone worse than you would expect them to treat you.…

“High expectations are the key to everything.” This quote by Sam Walton, who claims how these expectations tend to inspire and courage us to achieve higher in life and nobody else can prevent from doing it if we have desire to do it. Every parent has had expectations and goals for their children’s that play a huge role in their life in shaping a better opportunities and future. In recent studies, millennials have been shown to be the most overprotected generation of children to exist in our nation’s history. (LeMoyne & Buchanan., 2011, Pg. 399) In the two works “How to Land Your Kid in Therapy” by Lori Gottlieb and “Don’t Pick Up” by Terry Castle, the idea that helicopter parents will, over time, cause emotional and psychological damage to their children is thoroughly dissected. These two works set out to provide validation that unless these children can break away from their hovering guardians, they will never find themselves, nor be truly happy. I agree with both Lori Gottlieb and Terry Castle, in that helicopter parenting causes a plethora of issues as a byproduct of being overly involved and overprotective.…

Throughout the years I have always found myself being attached to my parents. I think this kind of attachment began when I was lost in a mall for three hours and couldn’t find my parents. This incident triggered an instant fear when I was young and didn’t know where my parents were. I always thought I would have to go through the same stress I went through when I lost them if I did get lost again. The journalist Paul Tough talks about an opposite problem that made me remembered my own issue in his book How Children succeed.…

I was not used to being clueless. Just as for many teenagers, when I got my license a new world was open to me. This was certainly a world where I had more freedom, and I had to learn how to navigate it, in more ways than one. Learning how to communicate with my parents as an adult was not easy. My new found freedom came with the catch of proving to them that I would be responsible and reliable.…

Play is essential for children’s lives; author Hanna Rosin’s article “The Overprotected Kid” demonstrates how parenting styles and fear have inhibited children’s play, harming their development. Places like “The Land” are attempting to make up for the missing element in children’s play by giving them the freedom to explore and make their own decisions, and in turn accept the natural consequences. These missing aspects of play affect children physiologically. One of the culprits could be how parenting styles have changed, therefore the behavior of their children has changed. These changes did not happen randomly; they could base on the accessibility to information these days.…
