To start, Abigail Williams committed adultery with John Proctor who is a married man. Next, another sin committed was Abigail lying about who she saw with the devil. Both sins have a different harshness concerning how bad the sin was. Adultery would be a much more overwhelming sin to try to be redeemed for. The redemption part comes in when John Proctor dies. Rather than John having to admit to a crime he did not commit, he could clear his name. Even though some sins are harsher than others, all sins are redeemable if the correct course of action is engaged to earn redemption. Hester Prynne, the main character, has a hard time grasping the idea that she committed a very atrocious sin, adultery. She is harshly mocked and for the rest of her life chose to wear a letter "A" on her chest to remind her of the sin she committed. Eventually she realizes that the best way to receive redemption is to just try to become better and help others. She does this by sewing items for people. Hester was always worried whether she would go to heaven or hell but in the end she realized that she just needed to keep going and that she would end up where she was supposed to end up (Hawthorne). Lots of people are scared to die because they know that they have committed a large sin. People need to start trying to earn their forgiveness so they don’t have to live life knowing that they have no chance in the afterlife. The redemption process needs to be used if any sin is committed so that one can have eternal
