Reflective Essay On Deep Learning

The entire purpose of education is to expand and fill your mind with usable knowledge. Unfortunately, now days it seems like more and more students are resorting to surface learning. I say unfortunately because surface learning really does not provide the student with a true comprehension of what they are learning. In most high schools today, students have a substantial course load. Sometimes students have more than six courses of study at one time. Although this can be done, it really discourages deeper learning patterns throughout their lives. I believe that one of the problems is that they are only measured on their test scores. Instead I believe test should be on how much of the subject they actually comprehend. With limited time to study …show more content…
By taking a deep learning approach you can get so much more out of what you are learning, not just a bunch of notes on a subject that you can repeat at will, but a true valuable understanding of the subject at hand. The biggest problem for most is that it is more time consuming. In order to deeply learn something, you can’t just read it from a book. You must think about the information you are reading and understand exactly how it works. You could say that the depth of your learning really depends how much you actually care about what and why you are learning and how hard you are willing to work in order to grasp the …show more content…
Since starting school again, after taking a few years off I am realizing how incredibly important it is to pursue I higher education. When I was younger I always wanted to be a motorcycle mechanic like my father, yet he would never have the patience to sit and explain any of the things that I was so interested in. I constantly use my father’s mistakes to help myself be a better dad. I always look for chances to teach my kids things. For example, my daughter could change a flat tire at age four. Or my wife and I had her writing her name before she started preschool. It is these types of things that I hope will give my children the deep learning advantages for the rest of their lives. I do know that they will need a lot of help with things as they get older, in order to maintain a deeper

Education has always been a part of my life. Long before my first day of kindergarten, my family’s love of learning has heavily influenced me. My maternal grandfather told me stories of people in places long ago with the same excitement and joy when I was five as he did when I was fifteen. I savor every moment I spend in my Uncle’s living room, their cozy furniture and reading lamps a mere practicality, while the books lining every shelf stole the spotlight. At nearly every stage in my elementary schooling, my mom inspired me to persevere and fought alongside me.…

I’ve always believed that earning my degree will afford me opportunities working in a call center could not give me. Providing my children with security, conquering my anxiety related to failure, finding true happiness in my career and are just a few things that hold my hand as I take this leap into higher education. Only when I took the time to slow down, did I realize how much I have excluded my own growth. My mother especially couldn’t understand why I would quit a good job to be a starving college kid.…

As a person who is going to be a first generation college student, my journey towards obtaining a higher education has been challenging to say the least. Neither my father or mother finished high school, but when I was very young, my mother, who struggled with alcoholism, left my father and I, and he has raised me by himself ever since. Over the course of my childhood, my father did everything in his power to make ends meet through working long hours and multiple jobs so that I could have the opportunities that he never had. Because of this, at an early age I learned to do without certain things and when I was old enough, I got a job of my own to help provide for myself and my father. As a result of these things, sometimes it was difficult to do well in school and other activities, but I always found a way to succeed through diligence and time management skills.…

As the daughter of a single mom from a large family in an upcoming community, I have learned much about hard work and the opportunities I have been given because of the people who have came before me. Everyday, I watch my mother work endlessly and strive to give me more than her parents ever could for her. Although my mom will be able to support me emotionally in my journey through college, there is a lot of physical support that I will need to create on my own. Many of my peers have advantages set up for them ahead of time, while I have only a year of minimum wage work under my belt. It’s going to be difficult to find a way to pay off my education, but I know in the long run that it will benefit me.…

I believe we should not let our circumstances define us and hold us down, but rather help drive us to make a greater future for ourselves and those around us. When I was a baby I was adopted by my grandparents. Due to the fact that my mother was schizophrenic, she was unable to care for me and my siblings. Although my upbringing was not traditional, I believe it not only gave me a strong sense of individuality and pride in education, but a very unique outlook on life in general. Education has been a very important part of my life from a very young age.…

(1). Although I may not have the strongest GPA among my peers, I consider myself to be an active member in my community. Compared to my affluent friends in college, I was born and raised in a low-income community on the East Side of San Jose. Additionally, my family 's social-economical background placed us at a disadvantage due to the fact in which my parents were not able to afford to pay for certain academic luxuries that my peers have had (private tutors, extracurricular academic activities, summer science camps, etc). However, I was fortunate to have been placed in charter schools for the most part of my K-12 education.…

The concept of education is how to learn, understand material, and knowledge that is taken in. Through education certain values and beliefs are developed. These beliefs, habits, and skills shape a student’s character. There are two controlling factors that come into play when discussing the concept of education; one is the teacher and the other is the student. As illustrated in Richard Feynman’s article, “O Americano Outra Vez,” a student’s learning focus is overwhelmingly influenced by the teaching style they are subject too.…
