The development of Facebook and other several social networking sites has come along with an existence of new industries, which generates thousands of new jobs. SNSs, particularly, LinkedIn allow employers to look for prospective employees and vice versa. Similarly, many universities and colleges search for future students by posting announcements of new semesters to their official Facebook besides their websites. Moreover, social networking has supplied businesswomen with means to express themselves and have their say. Such applications that we download from social networking sites or third-party websites always ask for our personal information and claim that they will not post to our timeline/wall or use our info without permission. The bit information “will not post to our wall” might be trusted; however, the latter is not guaranteed. A vivid example is a contention in 2014 about Facebook’s breach of information privacy by transmitting users’ identification (ID) to other parties. According to (Zephora, 2015), every one minute a.k.a 60 secs passes, there is a total of approximately 293,000 newly-updated statuses, 510 newly-posted comments and 136,000 newly-uploaded images in Facebook. All the users’ hobbies or locations from their profiles, from what they like, share or comment are achieved and provided to outside entities, particularly, marketing companies, who need large amounts of people’s information to analyse the marketing mix and offer customers a suitable service. Moreover, although viral nature of SNSs does help unknown and well-known artists to promote their music with no fees, leaked music videos and audios have caused artist massive loss. Big name artists frequently got songs leaked by crackers right before they officially release the …show more content…
It is the case that information has been circulating fast; nevertheless, the information could get distorted or could be misled or wrong without any inspection. Many people who answer questions on health risks like on Yahoo! Answer are not health expertise and they give information on their experiences and common sense. As a result, these consultations could lead to deadly mistakes. For example, there is a rumor that if your iPhone is out of battery, you could charge it fully by microwaving it for 2 minutes. Absurd as this idea might sound, my friend Sophia gave it a try one time when she was in emergency and needed her phone immediately. The result turned out that this trick was not working, her iPhone died right after that. My friend was lucky when her iPhone did not go exploded; however, there are many other circumstances when unwanted accidents happen due to amateur guides via social networking. Another danger is coming from lack of understanding the danger of viral and public nature of SNSs. Taking advantage of this, many “predators” like pedophiles or traffickers aim at young girls and boys by sending these adolescents messages and entice them to meet in real life and do bad things to them. In August 2015, Coby Persin, a popular Youtuber arouse people about how easy it is for pedophiles to lure young children via social media like Facebook.
