Cranberry High School Classroom Observation

I went to Cranberry Elementary and the principal picked out classrooms for me to visit. I visited Mrs. Feo’s third grade class and Mrs. Gordon’s second grade class. Both of the teachers had strategies on how they arranged the seating chart. Mrs. Gordon’s class was in a portable so she didn’t have lots of space to use. In both classrooms, the bulletin boards had the students work displayed. I liked walking around the classroom and seeing the students work and what they learned. The bulletin boards also displayed the rules and the responsibilities of the children. If any of the students need more information about a diagram, those were also found on bulletin boards around the classroom.
It is important to create a positive environment in the ESE and ESOL classroom. The students need to have a positive environment where they feel comfortable to share and trust the teacher. It affects them positively and they feel encouraged. Both of the teachers gave positive advice and praise when the students did something correctly or were doing what they were supposed to be doing. If a student who has disabilities is put down, they might not feel like they should try at all. Teachers should build up their students and help them when they do not understand. Many of the teachers at Cranberry have the same behavior chart. All the students start at the box labeled “Ready to learn.” The students, depending on their behavior, can either move up or down. There are three higher boxes the students can achieve for positive behavior and there are three lower boxes that the students can reach if they do not follow the rules. All the teacher says when a student is misbehaving is that it’s their first warning and the students know to move down their number. Each student has a number so that students would have their information

The 2nd grade classroom of Jody Craddock-Iselin has 20 students and each of them has their own personality. I have been observing this class every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. where I am learning so much about how to teach. I have taught two whole group lessons where I have learned that sometimes you have to teach on the student’s level to help them learn and understand the lesson better. I also have got the opportunity to teach a guided reading lesson which has helped me to understand students on different levels of the reading scale. I think that I am doing well in this class and I am learning so much from my teacher.…

Throughout my observation time spent at Reese Elementary, I have had the opportunity to observe two teachers, Mrs. Church, who is a second-grade teacher, and Mr. Dohrmann, who is a fifth-grade teacher. The teachers teach different grade levels and have very different teaching styles which lead to differences in classroom management and assessment, as well as, other categories. Even though there are many differences between Mrs. Church and Mr. Dohrmann they also have many similarities, such as the way they handle discipline and motivation. During my observation hours in both classrooms, I noticed the classroom management procedures that both teachers use. Both teachers have a class schedule they go by to keep the students and themselves on task throughout the day.…

All teachers performed great jobs at creating a unified classroom of learners. The students have favorable moments to act as chiefs and helpmates with individual responsibilities; their jobs are placed in a pocket folder on the wall. Students could participate in classroom activities in a variety of ways. Ms. Atkinson, Bell, Waldoky, and Gullekerson used a rocking chair during their teachable moments. I noticed around the classrooms, the teachers modeled supportive interactions with the students, and encouraged prosocial behavior.…

Owing to the fact that education facilitators are able to create guidelines as well as rules to be followed during their lessons makes classroom management to be such a significant part of teaching. It is through classroom management that teachers can visualize their rooms thereby coming up with processes for parents and volunteers, guidance for drills and rules for their students. As such, a plan for classroom management is required as a guide for teachers to think and implement everything about their class. Somewhat, this task may be difficult to carry out, consequently, the classroom management plan should be fluid and able to adjust from time to time to serve both the students and the teachers suitably.
