There is talk of the driving age being pushed up in the next couple of years. Like any other problem there are two sides to this debate; there are people who are for changing the driving age and there are people who are against changing the driving age. One of the main arguments for raising the driving age is that most accidents happen within the first few years of driving and are usually caused by something that could have been avoided if the driver was more experienced or less careless. Not to say that all new drivers are terrible drivers but they do lack the one thing that benefits to making someone a good driver, which is simply experience. Classes and online stimulations can only go so far in preparing one to be ready for the road, it is a whole new ballgame when someone is actually in a car and faced with a situation that they have not yet had to deal with. Another big argument for raising the driving age is the driving should be seen as an “adult privilege.” Other adult privileges include the consumption of alcohol and the ability to buy certain products such as Tabaco. Both of these have had a number of different legal ages throughout the years but have now settles on ages both higher than sixteen. People believe that people the age of sixteen should not be considered adults and should not be graced with the privilege to drive. Similar to drinking the driving age being made higher will negatively affect the social lives of many teenagers and young adults. Without a license it is harder for teen to go out as much as they would like to because they have to rely on their parents or others that are older than them to drive them to where they want to go. Also like drinking raising the driving age would make sense from the political point of view because there would be less accidents and less things that the government would have to be worried about being reliable for. From the economic stand point raising the driving age has its cons, there would be less business in the automotive department and less people would need gas and other expenses for a car and driving
