After watching this video of everything the entrepreneurs overcame and how they made successful businesses I started thinking about my life and what is important to me. I have not had to overcome extremely hard obstacles. I come from a good family, my family is actually a little overinvolved in each other’s lives. I started thinking about what success means to me, I would have to say success would be my family and my friends around me. All the money I could make would not be meaningful if I was alone. To me success would have to be measured by not how many people are around you, but by the people that actually care about you and that you have a true healthy relationship with.
While I am here at Marietta College I want to establish myself, to get good grades, I want to do well in political science and hopefully do the program where I can go to D.C. for a semester and study through American University. I also want to get involved on campus by joining organizations that I find enjoyable and that I am also passionate about. While over the past couple of years I have felt more comfortable speaking in front of people, I know this is a skill I really need to be good at not only for my classes but also because I am a political science major and I need to be completely comfortable speaking in front of crowds. This will also be important no matter where I end up in life because I feel that speech is so important not only to my career but just to build good relationships with the people in the world around you. I think many people in my generation have lost the basic skill to communicate effectively face to face and I would like to really work on my communication skills away from technology to help me in school, work and in life

Many people growing up have always associated success with money and power. Our society tends to spend a majority of their time focused on work tasks that will help them accomplish this state of wealth. Practice makes perfect as everyone has heard this saying before. In the future, I plan on practicing my speeches more by speaking in front of a mirror over and over again to give myself the impression of what I look like when speaking in front of a group of people. Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech.…

I believe that at the end of a person’s life, true success should be measured by how many people they touched positively. People who go out and inspire others, in my opinion, are the people who are truly successful. Thus, I am excited to be entering a profession that doesn’t pay financially well, but the intrinsic reward can be great.…
