I consider that the presentation of the strengths the students are displaying in class as the main component of the parent-teacher conferences. Yes, there should be a mention of any issues that the students may have, but that mention should not take the majority of the time. I think that parent-teacher conferences should present positives, challenges, and more positives, so the parents feel that the result of such meeting was a positive one. By visiting the communities, the teachers will have a sense of the realities that shape the students’ lives. At the same time, the teachers will have done the first step in promoting communication between them and the parents. Once the parents perceive that the teachers care for them and their children, the parents may feel better about visiting the schools and being part of the communication. In my community asset map, I mentioned places in the community where such initial communication could take place, since they are in the middle of the community and are in favor of creating such connections between schools and community
