Topic One: Police Brutality
Blacks Being on the Front Page
As a country of freedom, are we free? We know that whites and some minorities are, but what about the blacks? Why are they being posted up or being talked about every day? Why are blacks becoming victims of police brutality? Statistically, more than 1,000 people have been killed by the police. But that number is integrating white and blacks and everyone in between.
To break it up more, a quarter of that 1,000 were blacks. Out of the 365 days of the year, only ten days were spared of a killing by police brutality. More than a quarter of the blacks that were brutalized by the police were unarmed. The public looks at the brutality of blacks …show more content…
It turns out after the fact, that Rice was playing with a fake toy gun; the caller who called the police doubted that it was even a real gun that he was holding. Before investigating or question the child, the twelve-year-old was shot in the torso, due to the responding office firing two shots. The fault, in this case was that, the doubting of it was a real gun from the caller, was never passed down as information to the responding officer.
Responding officer was fired, but not for the shooting. He was fired because of administrative reason, which doesn’t give justice to the little boy. All responding officers involved in the shooting of Tamir Rice were denied criminal charges by the grand jury. This case was coverage nationally and internationally and this because the start of the protest in Cleveland until it become prominent soon after. Louis. From the time the incident began until Brown landed in the morgue, last for almost ten hours. Brown and his associate, Johnson, were suspected to be stealing cigars from a market and assaulting the clerk. Police dispatchers relayed the message of a stealing in progress to responding officers, where officer Wilson was needed for back up after losing the suspects. Now, responding officer, Wilson, is on the hunt for Brown and Johnson, now requesting more back up. Walking in the middle of the street, Wilson pulled up to make sure they get off the street, then drove past the two, but coming back to stop them again. As the struggle between Brown and Wilson began through the window of the police vehicle, Wilson fired his gun twice, hitting Brown’s hand. After that shock, Brown fled the scene to get away, with Wilson getting out the vehicle to pursue him. While pursuing, Wilson then fired his gun 6 more times, hitting Brown, now face to face. It only took a minute and a half, from the time Wilson stopped them on the street until Brown became dead.
