The emperors club displays the complexity between a teacher-pupil relationship. The film subtly uncovers the complex connections between fairness, reliability, personal integrity and dignity. All of these qualities are a part of the organizational culture which are represented at St. Benedict’s, a school for well educated, sophisticated boys who values knowledge and who aim high career-wise. Sedgewick having to choose between doing what is right, or making his father, who has always treated him like nothing, proud. Most of us would chose to do the right thing and not cheats, but then again most of us had a loving father. Thus making Mr. Hundret’s choice even harder. Should he, or should he not report Sedgewick to the schoolboard and have him punished. If he did, his father definitely would’ve heard and in some way punished Sedgewick. Is that truly justice? This movie is all about trying to see complex situations from another individual’s perspective. This story could perhaps pass as an anecdote. The story follows the story of William Hundert narrating his own tale from early to old age. Maybe a biography would fit better? Or perhaps both. Personally, I don’t feel any connection to this movie, however I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I’m not sure I would watch it again, but I think “The emperors club” definitely is a movie everyone should watch one time during their life. It has a profound and important underlying meaning everyone could learn from. In conclusion, the emperors club is a movie filled with hidden meanings, deep and morally complex problems, philosophical questions and complicated relationships.
