Alex And Me Book Report

Alex and Me is a book written by Irene M. Pepperberg, a scientist who mainly focusses on animal behavior, animal cognition, and comparative psychology. Pepperberg was born on April 1, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University and her B.S. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After this, she became a psychology professor at Brandeis University, where she also became involved in wildlife conservation. Alex and Me is about a parrot who becomes very intelligent in which he creates a deep bond with Irene M. Pepperberg, the author of the book and the main character. Most of the book takes place in an area in which Irene M. Pepperberg and her assistants work with Alex, the parrot, teaching him communicative and cognitive abilities. I chose this book because parrots are my favorite type of birds and they fascinate me greatly. I am very interested in learning about them and their abilities to do what they do.

The book is easy to read and to follow along. In my personal opinion, I would recommend this book if you are into a quick, non fiction, emotional read. With the book being very scientific, it does emotionally make you connect to Alex and Irene’s relationship, and when Alex passes away, it makes the reader, in my opinion very sad. With this emotional connection to the book, while you read you learn many things about animals and Irene provides you with the information in a interesting way so it becomes fun to learn about. With all of these merits the book, the book also has some shortcomings. Throughout the book there are some dead areas where it becomes a little boring and repetitive. For example, there are several areas where the scene is simply training in the lab, with the same setting and characters. In the end, I believe the merits overcome the shortcomings, and I would recommend this

The novel is well rounded, but only falls short due to the accidental mistakes made by the author. Nonetheless, the fact that the book is followed by several sequels ultimately provides the possibility that the author fixes the issues within the next installments. However, despite being a well rounded novel the book at times is dragged out with unnecessary additional words where the author attempts to further describe her point. The reader at times will have to re-read several passages to understand the repetitive word choice and will have to overcome the lack of suspense within the novel’s key…

The book, Leo the Extraordinarily Ordinary Lizard, taught the students whom I read to about six animals who make the Santa Rosa Plateau home. Secondly, in the last pages of the book it educates the reader about the animals and plants to see while hiking, or biking on a school function, or for pleasure with friends and family. As I was reading to the kids, it felt like I was taking them to a completely different world, where they were observing animals talking and interacting other animals on a normal day in their natural habitat. It almost gave the illusion as to help others in need , and how to keep the Santa Rosa Plateau thriving.…
