The reason why I did this is to become a better writer, to create a valuable piece of work and to input the actionable feedback that I received.
The feedback I implemented improved my work by making it more cohesive and organized. I needed to give the readers a reason to care about the story and characters, so I used some of the feedback suggestions to create that.
I ended up building my story around the beliefs of the main character and using that for the basis of my plot, this is a specific example, I wrote, "For the most part over the years, I have believed in the same things my parents believed. However, after three years in Kashmir boarding school, which my parents can barely afford, my beliefs have changed", this I wrote to help the readers to see her reasons, which is the reason for me writing the piece itself to tell her story. The areas I feel I could have improved are the plot and the theme. As for the plot, I could not settle upon exactly what I want to say in this story, one part of me wanted to tell a story about a teen who had been good most of her life and followed the status quo but after years of being bullied and disrespected she wants to become a person that fights for others Human rights by becoming a Human rights activist. The other part of me wanted to tell the story of a teen who wanted to make up her own mind after years of doing what her parents told her to do. I am not sure if I achieved either goal. As for the theme, I’m not sure if my final piece had the impact I wanted it to

The author, Andrew Braaksma, wrote "Some lessons from the Assembly Line." Working in the factory was somewhat of a life changing event for Andrew. In his article, he mentions work conditions, how his fellow employees felt and what he learned while attending school during his employment at the factory. During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

I second all of the points brought up by Chris in his responce to your incredible writing. I was deeply moved by your literacy narrative. By simply having the pleasure of spending the past month or so with you, I would have never known about the part of your life that you wrote so passionately about in your literacy narrative. I often find it so intriguing that everyone has a story that resonates so deeply with him or her. That is exactly why I think large projects such as Humans of New York (HONY) or class assignments such as this one are so important.…

Weekly writing portfolio I chose these three pieces to demonstrate different genres. The three different pieces I wrote were poetry, an essay and a story. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

I have learned that the audience is one of the most important things in writing because it is who reads and how they perceive it; they get to see your point of view. Along with writing, we learned all these little things in between that are way more important than we think it is the style, tone and voice. For example, style is important in writing because without style your writing becomes a boring piece of writing or a poorly written piece. The tone of the writing conveys a message from you as the writer and affects the reader in a particular way. I have learned that using an appropriate tone will help engage the reader and propel him or her to action and the writer’s voice is something uniquely their own.…

Initial Reflection In my draft I was most successful in explaining each of my literacy events and connecting them to my theme. I focused on really explaining each event to make sure I was including all of the details but also so that the reader was able to understand how my literacy was formed. In the first paragraph where I discussed how I learned to read, I was going in depth with the details on how it shaped me and how it was really significant to my reading. I think I also did really well with connecting it to the Fishman quote that I used.…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
