There are a lot of movies made about Marie Antoinette’s life. Even more, there are a lot of manga and anime made about her in Japan. However, we’ll focus on a very popular movie (which won a lot of awards too!).
Marie Antoinette (2006) starts when Marie is send to France to be married to Louis at the age of fourteen. After this moment the movies shows how her life developed from there. Her mother, Marie Theresa, also plays a small role in this movie. We’ll both analyze Marie Antoinette and Marie Theresa.

Some of the France lady’s and then the King of France arrives. Marie arrives, and meets the king and her fiancé. Which is shown as a pretty awkward moment. They travel further to Versailles, where people are waiting for her to welcome her. After that, she’s introduced to Versailles itself. Then it’s time to marry Louis-August. They need to show Europe their strength. ‘’Let them eat cake’’ Marie said one day. The civilians of France are angry, she denies that she ever said that.
Marie’s mother has died and Marie is devastated.
A second baby is born, this time it’s a boy. It’s not shown if it is the son of the King or the son of the soldier. Both are possible. Also Maries popularity is lowering. After another opera in Paris, she starts clapping, but nobody follows her. She is seen as one of the causes for the economic failure in France.
She gets another child, which died soon. This is shown by a portrait which first contains a baby, but then the baby is painted over. They lost a child. There’s a funeral.
The bastille is stormed. They decided that people should leave the Versailles. The King stays, as well as his wife. Most of the household leaves too. The King and Queen stay with their children in Versailles. The civilians arrive. Marie shows herself at the balcony and bows to the civilians.
They surrender, and leave the Versailles to be taken to Paris. After this, Versailles is destroyed and plundered. The movie ends
